I too went looking for the Canucks' flag and couldn't find it. In the process, however, I did discover the two-faced woman. (Look for the light post that cuts the main photo at about the one-third mark starting from the left. Then look to left of that light post for a bobby with his back to the camera and his hands crossed behind his back. Then look to the left of the bobby for a woman wearing a v-neck top printed with the Union Jack. That's her.) Actually given the size and complexity the photo stitching done on that picture the lack of really, really glaring errors like that one is pretty amazing.

This was a nice distraction from all the bad news in the world. These people seem genuinely in love, and no matter how you feel about the monarchy, I think these two will represent it well. I actually got up and watched the thing, which I did NOT do for Charles and Diana. Besides, the whole thing was worth it for scowling three year old bridesmaid and Princess Beatrice's flying spaghetti monster/lady gaga headpiece.

Interesting detail: As a result of being married, William and Kate are now officially the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. This must come as kind of a bummer for Kate who probably thought that she was going to be married to a real prince. "Duke" is certainly a bit of a demotion now, isn't it. But I suppose there's still a good chance that his status will eventually be upgraded to "king".

I was so cynical about the Royal Wedding when it was first announced I even started a moderately successful anti-wedding Facebook page. But yet, when it came to the actual day, it was a lot of fun. It was sunny and we drank champagne and had a bbq and shouted and laughed at the TV. We wheel them out for fun things like weddings, jubilees and the state opening of parliament, and then forget about them for the rest of the time. It works pretty well and it's also pretty harmless.

This must come as kind of a bummer for Kate who probably thought that she was going to be married to a real prince. He is a real prince. It's better to be a prince with a dukedom than one without. And if he hadn't been made a duke, then her official title would be HRH Princess William of Wales (just like Princess Michael of Kent). Far better to be HRH Duchess of Cambridge, I think.

I was there! Sort of. I was near the entrance to the Horse Guards Parade on Whitehall during the auto procession up to Westminster Abbey, and I watched the wedding from Trafalgar Square. I guess hating royalty is a Metafilter Thing, but I thought it was pretty great. It looked like something out of a fairytale, they seemed to actually like each other, and hearing everyone sing God Save the Queen was cool, although I had to keep myself from being a rude American and singing "America" instead. Plus everyone gets a long weekend, which is never wrong.

I have to say I was mostly indifferent to the whole thing, but my husband's boss, who sings in a choir, pointed out that the choral music during the ceremony, especially the Motet "Ubi Caritas et Amor", was lovely and beautifully performed, so I sought out some clips to see for myself and I do agree. This article has video of both the Anthem and the Motet and I particularly like the Motet.
