Feeding alligators is stupid and illegal (at least it's illegal here in Florida). Gators learn to associate humans with food, they lose their natural fear of humans, and the next thing you know humans are food. (Yes, yes, eponysterical.)

Oh it's super stupid, you shouldn't feed wild animals especially not ones as dangerous as gators.... But a part of me enjoys that the primitive predator, this vase of prehistory , an echo of a nightmare unchanged through the endless centuries DEMANDS CANDY!

Yeah, I should note that I'm just amazed that this was a thing that I had no idea about, and I was surprised when I looked it up that not only were there people talking about it, but a bunch of videos proving that it really was something that really happened. I am in no way condoning or trying to encourage people feeding wild animals.

Gators learn to associate humans with food, they lose their natural fear of humans, and the next thing you know humans are food. Before you know it, they'll be sashaying into Starbucks for a marshmallow latte. But, this won't be a problem so long as humans don't lose their natural fear of alligators.

Loved that guy's accent in the first vid. Huh, such an odd combo. Fluffly little cylinders of campfire memories, hot chocolate and sweet potato topping, so white and gently squishy in an innocent sort of way...and then GRARRRRRR, those prehistoric monsters with gnarly chompers, ugly reptilian, ferocious, deadly and primitive. It makes me like alligators more.

Feeding alligators is stupid and illegal (at least it's illegal here in Florida). Yeah, but these guys have all been to Disneyworld, and that gave them an idea. They're gonna feed them sweet, sugary treats until the alligators are all morbidly obese. Then, the only way they'll be able to get around is in those motorised wheelchairs. Then, when the 'gator comes after you, it'll be easy to outrun them.

I went on a "swamp tour" outside of New Orleans years ago. The tour guide drove us on a boat through the swamps where he group up. He was half Choctaw Indian and his father and grandfather were gator hunters and he worked with them up until he went to university to get a degree in Marine Biology. He also fed marshmallows to the gators to get them to come to the surface. He explained that it was the color white that was the trigger, because the gators primarily ate fish and the underside of most fish was white. He said that chicken worked equally well, but that the marshmallows were cheaper and more convenient. That guy was awesome. I learned a great deal listening to him for a couple hours.
