One of my favorite memories of watching the Orioles when I was a kid was what seemed the once a week occasion of Earl Weaver getting himself ejected. He was so good at it! Like an angry bantam rooster, kicking dirt and making noise.comment:www.metafilter.com,2018:site.172662-7332120Wed, 28 Feb 2018 10:09:42 -0800tavellaBy: PandaMomentum

Oh these are very good. '[I]f video did exist, it would likely feature three guys standing around, muttering variations of "What?" and "Wait, me?" and "Huh?" for several minutes before Bill Haselman gets angry and yells, all while the crowd wondered if they still liked baseball or if someone on the field was being arrested.'
& yeah, no one did Ejection Theatre like Earl Weaver. Just. so. good.comment:www.metafilter.com,2018:site.172662-7332145Wed, 28 Feb 2018 10:26:01 -0800PandaMomentumBy: zarq

I love watching these. Especially the ones where the umpires kind of wait patiently for a little while to see if the manager or player is going to wind themselves down. Hallion ejects Renteria is a great example of this. You can just see the wheels turning, and then when it seems to escalate, he lets out an "OKAY!" That's enough, buddy. You're gone.
Alonso Marquez' "What?" is good too. He's got a good Joe Pesci-esque "Do we have a problem here?" thing going on.comment:www.metafilter.com,2018:site.172662-7332155Wed, 28 Feb 2018 10:30:52 -0800zarqBy: Chrysostom

Instant replay has really cut down on the arguing; now, they can just have them look at it again. So most arguments now are balls and strikes, which would've gotten you ejected before, too. Fortunately we have heroes like Adrian Beltre to innovate new reasons to get ejected.comment:www.metafilter.com,2018:site.172662-7332214Wed, 28 Feb 2018 11:02:19 -0800Huffy PuffyBy: zarq

Meet <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGCwOIKoFXI">Joe Mikulik</a>, now manager of the AA Frisco RoughRiders. (Affiliate of the Texas Rangers).
Joe has <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89S7qyi-tQw">some</a> anger management issues. And he once <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4DPRuEJUVM">tossed second base into the outfield</a>.

"Joe Mikulik, the Laurence Olivier of minor league freakouts, is back with another bravura performance." There's a video of him taking off his shoes and shirt in that article, laying them on home plate and waving his arms "safe" over them. In 2015, <a href="http://m.mlb.com/cutfour/2015/06/17/131234636/minor-league-manager-mikulik-punts-his-shoes-during-ejection">he also took off his shoes after getting ejected, punted one and spiked another</a>.comment:www.metafilter.com,2018:site.172662-7332246Wed, 28 Feb 2018 11:21:20 -0800zarqBy: Cash4Lead

Has an ump ever been ejected from a game? It would be a great rule if each team were given the right to eject an ump, but just once per season. You'd have to pick your moment carefully. Someone like Vic Carapazza might get tossed 30 times.comment:www.metafilter.com,2018:site.172662-7332264Wed, 28 Feb 2018 11:29:51 -0800Crane ShotBy: zarq

<i>Throwing Stuff, God Bless America Edition</i>
Wait, is this a thing? Do they play both "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "God Bless America" at ball games, and is it necessary to stop, stand, face the flag, remove one's hat, and cover one's heart for both? 'Cause, like, you know only one of those is the national anthem, right? The other one's just an Irving Berlin "let's all forget about <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ng8RRiWFdEg">that borderline-satanic passifist anthem</a> I wrote" face-saving patriotic jingo-jingle. Since 9/11, many ballparks play "God Bless America" during the 7th inning stretch, after Take Me Out to the Ballgame.
For years now, The Mets have played "Dominick the Donkey" during the stretch as well.comment:www.metafilter.com,2018:site.172662-7332285Wed, 28 Feb 2018 11:40:52 -0800zarqBy: exogenous

Though note that Weaver managed many fewer games than McGraw and Cox, so he far outpaces McGraw and just edges Cox on the key "<a href="https://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2014/5/8/5683262/baseball-manager-ejections-mlb">how frequently will you be entertained by them being ejected</a>" statistic. My local minor league team regularly ruins the 7th inning stretch by playing this song and marching some poor boy scout troop or ancient VFW drum corp around the field with flags.
You never know quite how to react because you want to be respectful of the remaining WWII veterans but in 3 minutes, the mascot is going to be chasing a slot machine around home plate.
It's almost as bad as their habit of playing "wacky" off-beat versions of "Take me out to the ballgame" to which no one can sing along.comment:www.metafilter.com,2018:site.172662-7332543Wed, 28 Feb 2018 14:12:15 -0800madajbBy: Huffy Puffy

"Yes. Something that interested us yesterday when we saw it." "Where is she?" His lodgings were situated at the lower end of the town. The accommodation consisted[Pg 64] of a small bedroom, which he shared with a fellow clerk, and a place at table with the other inmates of the house. The street was very dirty, and Mrs. Flack's house alone presented some sign of decency and respectability. It was a two-storied red brick cottage. There was no front garden, and you entered directly into a living room through a door, upon which a brass plate was fixed that bore the following announcement:¡ª The woman by her side was slowly recovering herself. A minute later and she was her cold calm self again. As a rule, ornament should never be carried further than graceful proportions; the arrangement of framing should follow as nearly as possible the lines of strain. Extraneous decoration, such as detached filagree work of iron, or painting in colours, is [159] so repulsive to the taste of the true engineer and mechanic that it is unnecessary to speak against it. Dear Daddy, Schopenhauer for tomorrow. The exhibition of domestic discord and hatred in the House of Hanover had, from its first ascension of the throne, been most odious and revolting. The quarrels of the king and his son, like those of the first two Georges, had begun in Hanover, and had been imported along with them only to assume greater malignancy in foreign and richer soil. The Prince of Wales, whilst still in Germany, had formed a strong attachment to the Princess Royal of Prussia. George forbade the connection. The prince was instantly summoned to England, where he duly arrived in 1728. "But they've been arrested without due process of law. Reuben did not go to the Fair that autumn¡ªthere being no reason why he should and several why he shouldn't. He went instead to see Richard, who was down for a week's rest after a tiring case. Reuben thought a dignified aloofness the best attitude to maintain towards his son¡ªthere was no need for them to be on bad terms, but he did not want anyone to imagine that he approved of Richard or thought his success worth while. Richard, for his part, felt kindly disposed towards his father, and a little sorry for him in his isolation. He invited him to dinner once or twice, and, realising his picturesqueness, was not ashamed to show him to his friends.
