I am horrified at your snide remarks regarding my close personal friend, that little midget guy. We were like brothers, me and that little midget guy. I remember the days when we kicked a funky beat together -- back when I was 16 and he was only 2 feet tall.
Yes, that little midget guy was my best friend.

So, it looks like this Joe C guy took 72 pills a day. 72 frickin pills a day? To what, control his midgetness?
And how would he control his midgetness? Would it be for him to stay short or to.. uhmm... grow taller?

A close friend of mine dresses up as Crash Bandicoot at Universal Studios Hollywood, and works closely with several so-called "midgets." He informed me that referring to them as "midgets" is actually considered derogatory. They prefer to be called (no joke) "little people." (If they're actually a dwarf, then "dwarf" is an accurate term.)
Here's the information from the Dwarfism FAQ:
Q: What is a midget?
A: In some circles, a midget is the term used for a proportionate dwarf. However, the term has fallen into disfavor and is considered offensive by most people of short stature. Such terms as dwarf, little person, LP, and person of short stature are all acceptable, but most people would rather be referred to by their name than by a label.comment:www.metafilter.com,2000:site.4341-30641Fri, 17 Nov 2000 17:22:35 -0800waxpancakeBy: parvati

Hey, I'm as much in favor of the rights of Midget-Americans as the next guy. In fact, I don't think this issue has received enough attention. To remedy this horrendous oversight, I propose a Million Midget March.
Picture it: The streets of Washington overrun with pint-sized protesters. A march of a magnitude not seen since the last meeting of the Lollipop Guild.
I'm getting misty-eyed just thinking about it.

I agree with parvati... and why is it such a shock that midgets prefer to be called "little people"? That's not anything new...
But, if anyone actually bothered to read the article they would see that he didn't suffer from dwarfism (a pituitary disorder) at all... apparently he had celiac disease which is a digestive problem that I think is similar to diabetes. People with celiac disorder can't eat any foods with gluten in them and also have their growth stunted. Think about how much it would suck to not be able to eat any gluten.comment:www.metafilter.com,2000:site.4341-30661Fri, 17 Nov 2000 20:19:47 -0800kidsplateusaBy: harmful

By the way, folks...these are JOKES. He's a semi-famous dead guy. The fact that he was a midget is not even the point (although it does make the whole thing somehow...I dunno....funnier) He was a rapper. That means that he was probably a profane, misogynistic little twerp, who hit the "15 minutes" lottery when he hooked up with Monsieur Rock. He died. That is very sad. But I'm fairly sure these little jokes had nothing to do with his demise. Oh, jokes. Okay. Go ahead, then. I forgot all about your free pass. You should mention it first, next time, so when you begin to sound like an uneducated pre-teen with a phobo-phallic fixation on size, we can just wave you on through. He was a rapper. That means that he was probably a profane, misogynistic little twerp...
Seems like a racist assumption to me -- especially compounded with the sarcastic dismissal of the "Million ____" marches , 3/4 of which were geared towards uplifting the Black community and at least the first of which was widely considered a positive if not transformative experience.

"Yes. Something that interested us yesterday when we saw it." "Where is she?" His lodgings were situated at the lower end of the town. The accommodation consisted[Pg 64] of a small bedroom, which he shared with a fellow clerk, and a place at table with the other inmates of the house. The street was very dirty, and Mrs. Flack's house alone presented some sign of decency and respectability. It was a two-storied red brick cottage. There was no front garden, and you entered directly into a living room through a door, upon which a brass plate was fixed that bore the following announcement:¡ª The woman by her side was slowly recovering herself. A minute later and she was her cold calm self again. As a rule, ornament should never be carried further than graceful proportions; the arrangement of framing should follow as nearly as possible the lines of strain. Extraneous decoration, such as detached filagree work of iron, or painting in colours, is [159] so repulsive to the taste of the true engineer and mechanic that it is unnecessary to speak against it. Dear Daddy, Schopenhauer for tomorrow. The exhibition of domestic discord and hatred in the House of Hanover had, from its first ascension of the throne, been most odious and revolting. The quarrels of the king and his son, like those of the first two Georges, had begun in Hanover, and had been imported along with them only to assume greater malignancy in foreign and richer soil. The Prince of Wales, whilst still in Germany, had formed a strong attachment to the Princess Royal of Prussia. George forbade the connection. The prince was instantly summoned to England, where he duly arrived in 1728. "But they've been arrested without due process of law. Reuben did not go to the Fair that autumn¡ªthere being no reason why he should and several why he shouldn't. He went instead to see Richard, who was down for a week's rest after a tiring case. Reuben thought a dignified aloofness the best attitude to maintain towards his son¡ªthere was no need for them to be on bad terms, but he did not want anyone to imagine that he approved of Richard or thought his success worth while. Richard, for his part, felt kindly disposed towards his father, and a little sorry for him in his isolation. He invited him to dinner once or twice, and, realising his picturesqueness, was not ashamed to show him to his friends.
