All the photos link back to the original Flickr page, and there's nothing on this site you couldn't get via Flickr. I didn't know there was a law against categorising copyrighted works, chuckdarwin? I'd better let my library know, that Dewey Decimal System is going to get them in trouble with the law...comment:www.metafilter.com,2007:site.62557-1748423Mon, 02 Jul 2007 03:52:11 -0800JimbobBy: cavalier

<a href="http://www.metafilter.com/62557/Desktop-pictures-Computer-wallpaper#1748423">Jimbob</a>: "<i>All the photos link back to the original Flickr page, and there's nothing on this site you couldn't get via Flickr. I didn't know there was a law against categorising copyrighted works, chuckdarwin?</i>"
There are laws against using photos that are <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/56469836@N00/242694853/">copyrighted</a> (<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/49503155635@N01/66950160/">another</a>, <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/49503155635@N01/66950160/">and another</a>) without the rights holder's permission, even if you're just hotlinking to them on Flickr. There are others that <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/44124472651@N01/59948935/">are shared</a> with a "non-commercial" Creative Commons license, and I'm not sure if inline ads violate that. Also, the third of my examples has been uploaded to Flickr with "all sizes" turned off. It's only a fluke of the way that Flickr does permissions that allows this site to show the full size version against the photographer's wishes. (I only had to look at a handful to get these examples, so something tells me there's a lot of them.)
<small>Disclaimer: All of my photos on Flickr have full sizes available, and are uploaded with the most-BSD-like attribution Creative Commons license, and I wish that was the way everyone did it. But this is still at best extremely unethical.</small>comment:www.metafilter.com,2007:site.62557-1748794Mon, 02 Jul 2007 10:09:47 -0800PlutorBy: geos

You'd want to "know about it" if your photos were linked to on this site? That wouldn't take long, I imagine the extra traffic and comments it would generate would let you know you were being featured here fairly quickly :)
Sorry. My attitude on this issue is biased by my loathing of people who upload 640x480 images to Flickr, cover them with watermarks, and/or expect Flickr to somehow "protect" them from being "downloaded". Flickr is about photo<i>sharing</i>. Fuck you if you won't even let me put your picture on my private computer desktop.

How nice that the copyright infringer joins us (I refer to xlcus, of course). Welcome to our community. Why perhaps you can find more material to steal from our rich and diverse community?
Could you please tell us exactly how parasitic you feel violating the copyright of others for your own finical gain? For those that are uncertain about what career to take how easy is it to become a bottom-feeder? Do they take applications and resumes, or is the only prerequisite a few extra chromosomes? I agree with you and, pretty much consigned myself to the idea if I put anything online it could be used whether I agree to it or not. But, I wonder why a developer who taps into flickr's API can override a user's preferences. The accommodation consisted[Pg 64] of a small bedroom, which he shared with a fellow clerk, and a place at table with the other inmates of the house. The street was very dirty, and Mrs. Flack's house alone presented some sign of decency and respectability. It was a two-storied red brick cottage. There was no front garden, and you entered directly into a living room through a door, upon which a brass plate was fixed that bore the following announcement:¡ª The woman by her side was slowly recovering herself. A minute later and she was her cold calm self again. As a rule, ornament should never be carried further than graceful proportions; the arrangement of framing should follow as nearly as possible the lines of strain. The exhibition of domestic discord and hatred in the House of Hanover had, from its first ascension of the throne, been most odious and revolting. The quarrels of the king and his son, like those of the first two Georges, had begun in Hanover, and had been imported along with them only to assume greater malignancy in foreign and richer soil. The Prince of Wales, whilst still in Germany, had formed a strong attachment to the Princess Royal of Prussia. George forbade the connection. The prince was instantly summoned to England, where he duly arrived in 1728. "But they've been arrested without due process of law.
