I wonder if those kittens are going to have trouble recognizing DOG = POTENTIAL PREDATOR later in life. I'm not so worried about the dogs thinking CAT = POTENTIAL PLAYMATE since that seems common enough already and normally has sublethal (yet highly entertaining) consequences.

Yeah, the infant baboon succumbs to the cold and the leopard goes off to devour its mother. It's actually pretty horrifying if you anthropomorphize it. I've always been fond of crow and kitten.

Storytime: "When Harry Met Squeaky" When I was a kid, we rescued a tiny abandoned kitten from our vet, who was going to have to put it to sleep otherwise. At the time, we had a dachsund mama whose last puppy had just been weaned. Great timing for FREE FOODS! The kitten, Harry, nursed the wiener dog, Squeaky, to great success for a couple of months, and after it was too old, it occasionally grabbed hold just for the sake of nostalgia. They spent all night cuddled up forever.

In regards to Sys Rq's link, although the bit with the hedgehogs is insanely cute, I also find it rather incredibly sad. Four little hedgehogs snuggling up against a silent, unmoving brush makes my heart hurt a little.

Golden Retrievers are lovely. I had one living with me for some years and she became wonderful friends with my kitten, Lizzie. Lizzie was the only one interested in Indiana (the dog)'s nipple but she'd be down there suckling and doing the ol' paw kneading thing for hours. Eventually, she had kittens of her own and one of my great regrets in this most regrettable life is that I never took a photo of Lizzie suckling on Indy whilst all her little kittens suckled on her. It was sooooo keeyoot.
