Hip people manipulating your product to make music is such an ancient advertising trope that it is hard to get excited about this. However, Daito Manabe is awesome. His 'face visualizer' project (youtube) is a masterpiece of digital media arts. The human face is tremendously expressive, and our responses to its various natural states are deeply ingrained. Using electrical stimulus to manipulate the face directly lets him visualize the music with few layers of abstraction. This creates a great coherence between the music and the image. The process simple and direct, and the product is very evocative.

Hip people manipulating your product to make music is such an ancient advertising trope that it is hard to get excited about this. wow, you are quite cynical. about ... well, in this case not exactly me but people like me. let me assure you there isn't a fat old man with a gold watch in the background plotting to get your cash. the ones who made this are pretty much like the kids you saw. in fact, even the old guy who owns that place rocks. I wouldn't mind working for him.

the ones who made this are pretty much like the kids you saw. and the ones who paid? Marketing department. Run by old fucks. But hey, you predictably identify with the kids. ...and some of that meaning rubs off on the brand (the old guys hope).
