Strangely I liked that. Ooooh! I've been a big German rap fan for ages, but haven't heard any full-on Austrian dialect rap yet -- very excited! Thanks for the post. (For example: I always liked Die Fantastischen Vier and Thomas D's solo stuff, first heard DFV when I was living in Salzburg).

It's more reggae/dub than hip-hop, but I just absolutely love the sound of Seeed dub/rapping (whatever you crazy kids call it these days) in German. It's a glorious sort of noise.

The original Austrian hip hop for me is the accordion and drums duo Attwenger. (They are from Linz though. Homepage) They also collaborated with Texta, (so schnö kaust gor net) schaun. Attwenger solo: Schaun. Wüst.

I often wonder what Karl kraus would have written about contemporary pop culture. If he were alive to see something like jersey shore. It's a shame that so little of him got translated, if there was more material available online I would long have made a post about him, he just belongs on the blue...

He's saying: "Was du sagst kann ned stimmen, ich mein das voll ernst mit dir schau in mei Sonnenbrille" meaning "What you're saying can't be right, i'm being totally serious, look in my sunglasses"- so no mention of lesbians. Austrian Dialekt is fun stuff. I still catch myself saying stuff like "bissal" "wü" "koa" and "gemma".
