frontsection.net is a tasteful, politically right-on and truly curatorial take on aggregating web content. Careful, combined with an MF habit, this is going to eat up a lot of hours. Although the site is MetaFilter-inspired, all links are the fruit of one intrepid reader whose work, it must be admitted, sometimes grinds to a halt for up to a week at a time.post:www.metafilter.com,2010:site.94770Sat, 14 Aug 2010 22:59:45 -0800RoachbeardnewsartsargumentaggregatorlinksleftistnerdBy: lumensimus

That is a slick fucking design. I even like the bolding, despite not usually digging that much formatting (I take them to be like topical tags more than emphasis).comment:www.metafilter.com,2010:site.94770-3237006Sun, 15 Aug 2010 00:03:48 -0800codacorollaBy: Durn Bronzefist

And some paleo-leftism will be a nice counterpoint to the oddly strident right-wing emphasis of Arts & Letters Daily, which I've never really understood.
I find that the headline summaries are quite often more right-wing than the pieces that they introduce. It's almost like Dutton is trying to lure conservative readers into some sort of intellectual debate (or at least statement of one's thinking) while at the same time trying to be a useful roundup of the neocon press for those further to the left. Assiduous coverage of evolutionary biology; high culture (particularly music); and semi-popular intellectuals like Zizek and Berlin rounds it out.
This site looks interesting - thanks!comment:www.metafilter.com,2010:site.94770-3237092Sun, 15 Aug 2010 06:41:56 -0800GeorgeBickhamBy: GeorgeBickham

That's a good point, GeorgeBickham. It's something about the inconsistency of it that bothers me about A&L Daily — I've got no problem with a website that rounds up right-wing thought plus right-friendly evolutionary biology, but it's probably something I'd check with a different frequency to a more broadly based site, and A&L Daily keeps tempting me into believing it's the latter. I've lost count of the times I've clicked an intriguingly phrased link only to find it's yet another poorly thought-through essay by Theodore Dalrymple in City Journal...!comment:www.metafilter.com,2010:site.94770-3237098Sun, 15 Aug 2010 07:02:40 -0800game warden to the events rhinoBy: Jaltcoh

I said that because of the highlighted, (sometimes multiple) mid-sentence links. The accommodation consisted[Pg 64] of a small bedroom, which he shared with a fellow clerk, and a place at table with the other inmates of the house. The street was very dirty, and Mrs. Flack's house alone presented some sign of decency and respectability. It was a two-storied red brick cottage. There was no front garden, and you entered directly into a living room through a door, upon which a brass plate was fixed that bore the following announcement:¡ª The woman by her side was slowly recovering herself. A minute later and she was her cold calm self again. As a rule, ornament should never be carried further than graceful proportions; the arrangement of framing should follow as nearly as possible the lines of strain. Extraneous decoration, such as detached filagree work of iron, or painting in colours, is [159] so repulsive to the taste of the true engineer and mechanic that it is unnecessary to speak against it. The exhibition of domestic discord and hatred in the House of Hanover had, from its first ascension of the throne, been most odious and revolting. The quarrels of the king and his son, like those of the first two Georges, had begun in Hanover, and had been imported along with them only to assume greater malignancy in foreign and richer soil. The Prince of Wales, whilst still in Germany, had formed a strong attachment to the Princess Royal of Prussia. George forbade the connection. The prince was instantly summoned to England, where he duly arrived in 1728. "But they've been arrested without due process of law.
