Ok, I'm Canadian and all happy for it... but really, it's just a quarter-final. Are we going to make a post everytime they win? What about everytime the Americans win? It's kind of unneccessary.

I'm not entirely convinced facing Belarus is the best thing for Canada. If we were to face Sweden, we¡¯d have revenge on our minds and would probably play a full game of good hockey. Now that we¡¯re playing Belarus we are more likely to take the game for granted and let them have some early goals. posted by Gary at 12:52 AM on February 21, 2002
Being half-Swede, I'm very looking forward to a US-Sweden matchup for the gold.
And I'm happy Canada won, too. Maybe The Great One will stop whining now about the International Conspiracy Against Canada. posted by dhartung at 2:00 AM on February 21, 2002

I doubt that anyone is taking Belarus for granted these days. If there's one thing hockey players fear, it's a hot goalie. And Mezin (goalie for Belarus) is hot. posted by iceberg273 at 5:59 AM on February 21, 2002
Now that Sweden is out, I really think it will be between the US and Russia, unless Canada actually reponds to Gretzky's paranoid whining. posted by adampsyche at 6:24 AM on February 21, 2002

Umm, the gold medal game can't be US-Russia. They're playing in the semis. It's US-Russia and Canada-Belarus, with the winners going for gold. posted by mikel at 9:40 AM on February 21, 2002
LOL! Good point.

Woohoo, damn i'm happy for Belarus, as I am a Belarussian. Although I must say, I didn't even know they had an Olympic hockey team before this article. :-P
Anyways, I don't think they will win, if they do: yay! If not, oh well. There's always Russia. hehe
And the yankees in here can stop crying. Win or lose, it's only a game. I believe that most of you are still pissed that you've only defeated the Russians only once?
*sigh*

Whoa -- I didn't realize, and the articles didn't make clear, that the loss to Belarus actually eliminated Sweden. I guess I thought they were still in qualifying rounds.
The odds are US-Canada for the gold, by far. But we have to get past Russia. posted by dhartung at 4:15 PM on February 21, 2002
Warning! There is a conspiration going on against Sweden!
If the Swedish team/competitor has not won the game/sport you are looking at the enemy/terrorists has won! Don?t support the enemy!
USA, Salt Lake City the safest place on the earth during the Olympics?! Bah!! Don?t they see that the enemy has outsmartened them! The plan is to crush the Swedish people down the suicide lane, making them think they are all loosers, and after that take over the western world with god old Sweden as base.
Help us survive, save yourselfs and us!! Send your gold, silver, bronzes medals to us!!! Breake a leg on a god non swedish player, demand a new hockey tounament
God save Sweden!! Thank you for your support! posted by Ulwen at 4:39 PM on February 21, 2002

"Yes. Something that interested us yesterday when we saw it." "Where is she?" His lodgings were situated at the lower end of the town. The accommodation consisted[Pg 64] of a small bedroom, which he shared with a fellow clerk, and a place at table with the other inmates of the house. The street was very dirty, and Mrs. Flack's house alone presented some sign of decency and respectability. It was a two-storied red brick cottage. There was no front garden, and you entered directly into a living room through a door, upon which a brass plate was fixed that bore the following announcement:¡ª The woman by her side was slowly recovering herself. A minute later and she was her cold calm self again. As a rule, ornament should never be carried further than graceful proportions; the arrangement of framing should follow as nearly as possible the lines of strain. Extraneous decoration, such as detached filagree work of iron, or painting in colours, is [159] so repulsive to the taste of the true engineer and mechanic that it is unnecessary to speak against it. The exhibition of domestic discord and hatred in the House of Hanover had, from its first ascension of the throne, been most odious and revolting. The quarrels of the king and his son, like those of the first two Georges, had begun in Hanover, and had been imported along with them only to assume greater malignancy in foreign and richer soil. The Prince of Wales, whilst still in Germany, had formed a strong attachment to the Princess Royal of Prussia. George forbade the connection. The prince was instantly summoned to England, where he duly arrived in 1728. "But they've been arrested without due process of law.
